Our Story

What is Sunshine Spaces?

Sunshine Spaces is a 501c3 nonprofit approved organization based in Keller, Texas and it was founded by Erica Jones in 2013.

The vision of Sunshine Spaces is to bring hope and joy to children battling life threatening and long term illnesses by renovating their rooms and creating dream spaces for them and their siblings. Through our partnerships with local companies and donors we are able to offer these makeovers to our families at no cost.

Meet the Jones’

How Sunshine Spaces came to be

Sunshine Spaces completed their first makeover on December 20th, 2013 for Brielle Perry – a little 2 year old girl from Denton, Texas that was born with Downs Syndrome and a hole in her heart.  Brielle was diagnosed with Leukemia (AML) before her 2nd birthday.

Sunshine Spaces began as a desire to teach her children to see pain in the world and do something about it. Erica grew up in Zimbabwe, Africa where life is anything but easy, where community is everything and it truly takes a village to build a life.  This unique perspective drove her to create an opportunity to serve a family that needed some hope. From that first makeover, an organization committed to serving the families of fragile children was launched.

I realized quickly that it was so little about the rooms and so much about the love. Its about the volunteers that show up and create beauty in the middle of crisis. I believe we are all given gifts and it’s up to us what we do with those.  This is how we are using ours – to love, serve and elevate” Erica Jones, Founder of Sunshine Spaces
